My family loves animated movies, and we have been excited to see The Wild Robot. I took my oldest son to it. We both loved it.
The animation in the movie is top notch with so much detail. With most of the film taking place in a natural landscape, it was a beautiful film to watch.
The cast was fantastic. Lupita Nyong’o was fantastic as the robot, Roz. She did so well portraying a robot who eventually starts to feel more than what she is programmed to be. She portrayed great vulnerability with her character. I loved Pedro Pascal and Catherine O Hara’s characters Fink and Pinktail. They provided a great amount of the film’s comic relief. I loved Kit Connor’s performance as Brightbill. He captured the vulnerability of being unsure of yourself so well.
I loved the storyline of the film and how it talks about what makes a family. As a parent, I could relate to many of the emotions that Roz goes through raising Brightbill. I cried several times and recommend taking tissues.
My son loved all the different animals in the film. He also really enjoyed Roz and how she could move like different animals and interact with them. He said his favorite character was Fink the fox.
The Wild Robot is rated PG “for action/peril and thematic elements.” There are a few scary moments of violence with robots and animals but overall, I think most young kids will be okay, especially with an adult there.
I loved The Wild Robot and will see it again. It is one of the best movies I have seen this year. It is a wonderful choice for the whole family to see together.
